Infant death at Las Vegas hospital ruled homicide

The death of an infant whose umbilical catheter was severed at a Las Vegas hospital has been ruled a homicide.
Clark County Coroner Mike Murphy says the ruling means the July 22 death of 2-month-old Miowne Obote was at the hands of another, but it’s not necessarily a murder.
Monday’s autopsy report shows the infant at Sunrise Children’s Hospital suffered severe bleeding when the catheter was severed, causing a fatal lack of oxygen to the brain.

The Orlando Sentinel reports Michael Jordan’s sons, Marcus and Jeffrey who both play basketball at the University of Central Florida, visited Las Vegas during a weekend trip with teammate A.J. Rompza. Jeffrey posted on his Twitter page that the three UCF Knights flew to Vegas with M.J. for a fantasy basketball camp at the Mirage Report Casino that cost between $13,500 and $15,000 per person.
Madonna in talks to land $1 bn Las Vegas deal

Pop diva Madonna is in talks for a $1 billion deal by signing up for a five-year residency in Las Vegas, which can make her the third richest female entertainer in the world.
The ‘Frozen’ singer is said to be in discussions with promoters to establish a run of shows in the US gambling capital, and if she signs the deal, she will be following in the footsteps of other performers such as Elton John, Cher and Celine Dion, who have all made huge sums through Vegas contracts, reports contactmusic.com.
Health district sees Vegas salmonella cases rise

Las Vegas-area health officials don’t know the exact source, but are reporting an increase in cases of salmonella bacteria infection usually associated with eggs and poultry.
Southern Nevada Health District spokeswoman Stephanie Bethel said Wednesday there have been 30 cases of Salmonella enteritidis in southern Nevada since January. That’s four times the usual number.

Schwarzenegger promotes new film in Vegas
