Vegas city council supports their own domain initiative
The Las Vegas City Council is now a catalyst in helping Sin City go viral. On Wednesday, the council approved a motion to support the “.vegas” effort. The city will get 50 cents for each name registered or renewed with the company or 10 percent of its gross profits — whichever is greater.
The goal is to have up to 500,000 registered users in the .vegas domain within five years. That could earn Las Vegas $250,000 in revenue.“Having a city name in the Internet lexicon is incredibly important for Las Vegas in continuing the brand of Las Vegas,” said Bill Arent, director of the office of business development.
